Manar Waheed, Former White House Immigration Dep. Director on Tahmina’s Show
I am so very honored and grateful to announce that Manar Waheed, Former Deputy Policy Director for Immigration at the White House will be appear on my radio show “Immigration with Tahmina” on Desi 1250am on Tuesday January 31st 2016 at 10am PST!
Manar worked tirelessly over the last few years in the Obama Administration creating policies that helped millions of people but are now being stripped away by the new administration. She was a key person in helping the Obama Administration dismantle NSEERS just before the Administration left office in order to prevent the creation of a Muslim registry. Manar will talk to us about her work at the White House on Immigration issues and provide invaluable insights.
This show is particularly important because the nation faced its worst week in history with violations of human rights in the shape of three executive orders signed by the new president. Each as bad as they can be. Manar can give insights like no other!
Manar Waheed is the Former Deputy Policy Director for Immigration at the White House Domestic Policy Council. She assisted with the development of the President’s strategy for building a 21st century immigration system which included addressing anti-immigrant and –refugee sentiment and protecting the rights of all people against discrimination, harassment, and hate attacks. Prior to the White House, Manar engaged in policy work around immigration, profiling, hate violence, and gender equity as the Policy Director at South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT). Previously, she worked with Legal Services of New York City where she provided direct services to domestic violence survivors who were primarily from immigrant communities. Manar has co-taught a seminar on domestic violence and legal intervention, which included the impact of media on violence at Wagner College. From 2009 to 2012, she served on the board of the Muslim Bar Association of New York. Manar also worked with the National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women, where she provided technical assistance on cases in which battered women were charged with crimes and participated in national trainings focusing on domestic violence in immigrant communities. Manar received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in June of 2004 and her B.A. from Wellesley College in 1999.
This is a show you simply cannot miss! Everyone must tune in and learn about these issues given the new executive orders that were just handed down.
